In a first, Ministry of Finance has limited spending under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), reported The Indian Express. The spending has been capped at 60% of its total yearly allocation for the first half of current fiscal. Until now, the rural jobs guarantee scheme operated as a demand-driven programme with no such spending limit.
