First Cannes Film Festival began on this day

The first ever Cannes Film Festival, which is considered one of the most prestigious film festivals worldwide, began on September 20, 1946. A total of 18 nations were represented in the film festival which ended on October 5, 1946. Notably, it was scheduled to make its debut in 1939 but got delayed due to the outbreak of World War II.
