First-ever green star identified
Astronomers have identified first documented green star, a white dwarf named WD J1330+6435, located about 280 light-years from Earth in constellation Draco. Its dense atmosphere, enriched by planetary debris containing sodium, calcium and lithium, absorbs yellow, orange and some red light, producing a chartreuse-green hue. A study of 151 white dwarfs also found unusual pink, purple and blue hues.
