US surgeons have successfully transplanted a genetically modified pig kidney into a living patient for the first time ever, Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital said. The four-hour operation was carried out on a 62-year-old man suffering from end-stage kidney disease. The transplantation of organs from one species to another is reportedly a growing field known as xenotransplantation.
