The first generation iPhone was announced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs on January 9, 2007. While unveiling the product at an event in San Francisco, Jobs called it a 'revolutionary device five years ahead of any other mobile phone'. Apple reportedly sold over 2,70,000 iPhones in the first two days of going on sale in the US in June 2007.
