The first modern Olympic Games were held on April 6, 1896, in Athens. The tournament was revived 1,500 years after being banned by Roman Emperor Theodosius I. A total of 14 countries had participated in the tournament wherein 43 events of 9 different sports were organised. The Olympic Games lasted for 10 days and its winners were given silver medals.
