Dr Rajendra Prasad was unanimously elected as the first President of the Republic of India on January 24, 1950, by the Constituent Assembly. Born on December 3, 1884, in Bihar, Prasad belonged to the Indian National Congress. India has so far had 13 Presidents, with Prasad being the only one to have held the office twice.
