First Rajya Sabha sitting was held on this day

The first ever sitting in the upper house of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha, was held on May 13, 1952. The first Vice-President​ of India, Dr Sarveppali Radhakrishnan, was the Chairman of the session. The Parliament house was then called the 'Second Chamber', and later it was renamed as 'Rajya Sabha' in August 1954.
