West Bengal's first Legislative Assembly elections were held on March 31, 1952. A total of 1,374 candidates contested on 187 seats with the Congress winning on 150 of them. The Communist Party of India won 28 seats, while the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party won 11. The election saw a voter turnout of 42.23%, with over 74 lakh votes cast.
