For the first time, scientists have filmed the bond formation between two individual atoms in real-time. Such chemical bonds occur on a small scale, about half a million times smaller than a human hair's width. Scientists trapped a pair of rhenium (Re) atoms in a nanotube and filmed the two atoms bonding to form Re2 and later breaking the bond.
