Five constitutional terms define India’s political identity

The Constitution of India describes the country as secular, sovereign, socialist, democratic & republic. Secular means the state has no religion, sovereign denotes independent control over internal & external affairs, and socialist aims at social and economic equality through state action. Democratic refers to equal voting rights, while republic means the Head of State is elected for a fixed term.
