Omani co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami, who allegedly tried to hijack and crash the Israel-bound flydubai flight, was inspired by 9/11 attacks, early investigations by UAE have found. He pursued an aviation career to carry out a similar attack and became inclined towards extremism and terrorism in 2017 while studying in Australia. The 29-year-old's plan was foiled by Indian captain Smit Machchhar.
