Food preservatives are everywhere in processed foods, but the idea that all preservatives directly cause cancer is oversimplified. As Dt. Garima explains, some large studies have found modest associations between higher intake of specific preservatives (like sorbates, nitrites and nitrates) and slightly increased cancer rates, such as breast or prostate, though this doesn't prove cause and effect.
