Protesting teachers in Mexico City's Paseo de la Reforma toppled giant statues of football players, ripped off their clothes and set them on fire days before the city hosts the opening match of the FIFA World Cup. They also set soccer balls alight and blocked main roads. The protesting teachers are demanding salary hikes and the reversal of pension laws.
