Ford fined $2.3 mn in South Africa after dozens of SUVs catch fire

US-based automaker Ford has been fined $2.38 million by the South African consumer watchdog after dozens of its 'Kuga' sports utility vehicle (SUV) caught fire without warning. The watchdog had received nearly 160 consumer complaints about the issue, which it attributed to a cooling system failure. In one such alleged explosion in 2015, the driver Reshall Jimmy had passed away.
