Forest land can’t be used for non-forest purposes without Centre's approval: SC
short by Sakshita Khosla / on Friday, 19 December, 2025
Leasing or using forest land for non-forestry purposes without prior permission from the Centre would be a violation of the Forest (Conservation) Act, Supreme Court said on Thursday. It set aside a Karnataka HC order allowing a co-operative society to continue its 10-year lease over 134 acres 6 guntas of forest land. The lease was illegally granted, it added.
