Fossil of ‘royal’ sturgeon found in Africa for the first time

A sturgeon fossil has been discovered in Morocco, marking the first-ever record of sturgeon in Africa. The sturgeon was previously thought to have only lived in the northern hemisphere. Sturgeons are known as living fossils as their ancestry dates back to over 200 million years ago. These fish can grow up to 7 metre in length and weigh 1.5 tonnes.
