Fossil Syzygium reveals early evolution on Indian landmass

The newly discovered fossil species Syzygium paleosalicifolium from the foothills of the Himalayas has a complex vein structure that scientists used to place its identification. They looked at 22 different physical traits to place it on the evolutionary tree. It shows that Syzygium genus was diversifying on the Indian landmass long before it collided with Asia.
