Researchers from IIT Roorkee and Lithuania's Kauno Technologijos Universitetas have shown that injecting freshwater into saline underground aquifers can temporarily push back seawater intrusion. The field experiment, conducted along a five-kilometre stretch of Kerala's Malappuram coast, could help improve groundwater management in vulnerable coastal regions, according to the study.
