Frogs were used for pregnancy tests in the 1930s

During the 1930s, African clawed female frogs were introduced as a means of human pregnancy tests. The frogs were injected with urine from pregnant women, and if the frog ovulated and extruded eggs within few hours of the test, a woman was considered pregnant. The ovulation in frogs was caused as a response to the presence of pregnancy hormones.
