Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) authorities told an empowered committee formed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development that a financial backlog forced them to hike hostel fees, adding that it was 'unavoidable'. The varsity revealed on Tuesday that it has a fund deficit of over ₹12 crore. This came amid student protests over the proposed fee hikes.
