NASA's Galileo spacecraft entered the atmosphere of the fifth and largest planet of the solar system, Jupiter, on December 7, 1995. Launched on October 13, 1989, it took the spacecraft over six years to reach its destination. 'Galileo' measured Jupiter's atmosphere directly and became the first spacecraft to orbit the planet. The mission disclosed the presence of minerals on Jupiter.
