Gandhi never won Nobel Prize despite 5 nominations

Mahatma Gandhi, known for leading the Indian non-violent freedom struggle, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize five times, but never won it. Gandhi was nominated in 1937, 1938, 1939, 1947 and, finally, a few days before his assassination in 1948. The Nobel Committee had even expressed regret over not giving the award to Gandhi.
