Gene-edited donor cells reverse aggressive blood cancer

Scientists at University College London and Great Ormond Street Hospital have used gene-edited donor T-cells to reverse aggressive blood cancers. The “base editing” therapy, tested on 11 patients, put 64% in remission, including 16-year-old Alyssa Tapley, the first recipient. The breakthrough offers hope for treatment-resistant leukaemia and marks a milestone in genetic medicine.
