Generic competition cuts semaglutide prices by up to 90% in India

A Diabetes Care study by the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation found that prices of several modern diabetes medicines in India fell 60%-90% after patent expiry. Semaglutide prices dropped sharply after March 2026, while sales rose nearly sevenfold, highlighting the impact of generic competition, regulation and domestic manufacturing.
