Genes that gave humans the ability to stand and walk upright around six million years back have been identified. Scientists believe these genes shaped the human skeleton from the shoulders' width to legs length. They also pinpointed the variants' permanent changes in the DNA sequence associated with arthritis that may help in predicting the risk of developing the condition.
