Genetic element responsible for dogs' intensity of coat color found

UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine geneticists have found that the coat colour in dogs is related to a region of DNA on the dog chromosome 15 that can have multiple copies related to coat colour. When researchers looked across a range of breeds, dogs with a higher number of copies of this region had more intense coat colours.
