Genetic portrait of last universal ancestor made

Germany-based researchers have created a genetic portrait of the Last Universal Common Ancestor, LUCA, which was a single-cell, bacterium-like organism that lived around four billion years ago. LUCA fed on hydrogen gas and lived in a high-temperature environment devoid of oxygen, the research revealed. The team cited 355 genes that were found to have probably been originated in LUCA.
