German scientists find 77 new species beneath Antarctic ice shelves

A team of researchers from Germany discovered 77 new marine species beneath the ice shelves of Antarctica. The team used hot water to drill through nearly 200 metres of the ice shelf to find species which included sabre-shaped bryozoans (moss animals) and serpulid worms. The researchers noted that the biodiversity of the discovered specimens was extremely rich.
