Germany has opened its first electric highway test route for hybrid trucks in Hesse. The trucks are equipped with electric motor, diesel engine and batteries that can be charged from overhead power lines. The government has funded the pilot project's construction with €14.6 million along with €15.3 million available for conducting field trials in Hesse, which will run till 2022.
