'Victory in Europe Day' was celebrated by Great Britain and the United States as Germany officially surrendered in the Second World War on May 8, 1945. The celebrations were following the signing of agreements stating Germany's unconditional surrender by General Alfred Jodl, on behalf of German President Karl Dönitz, in Reims, a city in France.
