Giant 'mercury bomb' in Arctic waiting to explode, warn scientists

Scientists have warned there could be a "giant mercury bomb in the Arctic waiting to explode". As the Arctic warms with climate change, mercury sequestered in the permafrost for millennia is being eroded by rivers and released into the environment, USC Dornsife scientists said. The toxic metal poses an environmental and health threat to 5 million people, they added.
