Giant tortoises outnumber entire human population in Seychelles

Giant tortoises now outnumber humans in Seychelles, with researchers estimating nearly 1.83 lakh tortoises on Aldabra Atoll compared with the country's human population of around 1.23 lakh. Hunted to fewer than 1,000 in 19th century, the species has recovered under long-term protection. Aldabra Atoll is one of only two places where giant tortoises can be found in the wild.
