Chinese smartphone maker Gionee has sought the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion's (DIPP) approval for opening its own retail stores in India. It currently has about 30 franchise stores in the country, which it plans to expand to 250 by the end of 2016. Notably, Gionee also plans to make all its phones in India by March 2016.
