As gold prices reached record-breaking highs, gold smuggling into India has increased, Reuters reported, citing security officials. Customs and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials confirmed that smuggling has increased in recent weeks, and many such attempts were foiled at airports. A Chennai-based bullion leader even claimed that smugglers are able to liquidate gold in few hours.
