Google abruptly dropped out of a $100 million US Pentagon contest to develop technology for voice-controlled, AI-enabled drone swarms, despite being among the selected submissions, Bloomberg reported. The decision followed an internal ethics review and staff concerns about the use of AI in modern warfare. Reportedly, Google has allowed US defence department to use the firm’s AI for lawful tasks.
