Google is reportedly working on a technology that would allow users to activate its AI assistant Gemini on smartphones by bringing their face closer to the screen. The technology, revealed in a new patent, would eliminate the need for hotwords or button presses. The proposed system would use the capacitive sensor grid of touchscreens to detect a user's face.
