Google to send AI chips into space on SpaceX rockets

Google is preparing to send four custom AI chips into low Earth orbit as part of Project Suncatcher. The experimental satellite will launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on October 1. Google will test how its TPUs handle radiation, launch stresses and cooling in space, while exploring a future in which solar-powered satellites could provide large-scale AI computing infrastructure.
