The Oil Ministry acknowledged that petrol blended with 20% ethanol (E20) can reduce fuel economy by 3-5% in some vehicles. However, it said the benefits outweigh the mileage loss, citing faster combustion, better pickup, smoother acceleration, cleaner engine operation, and lower lifecycle carbon emissions. The ministry added that E20 has been tested for engine durability and fuel systems.
