The government on Thursday appointed Justice Surya Kant as 53rd Chief Justice of India (CJI), Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal said. He is expected to take oath on November 24. Justice Kant will take over from Justice BR Gavai following his retirement on November 23. Justice Kant is expected to serve until his retirement in February 2027.
