The Petroleum Ministry denied a Kotak Institutional Equities report that claimed that a ₹25-28/litre hike in fuel prices after elections is being considered. "There's no such proposal under consideration...India is only country where petrol and diesel prices haven't increased in last four years," it said. The government has taken "relentless" steps to insulate Indians from price hikes, it added.
