Govt eyes fuel-efficiency credit trading for carmakers: Report

The government is considering a "credit-debit passbook system" under which automakers exceeding their Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency targets since FY23 can sell surplus compliance credits to manufacturers that fall short, Mint reported. If implemented, the proposal could benefit Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Maruti Suzuki, both of which have consistently met their fuel-efficiency targets.
