Govt issues advisory on rational use of cough syrups for kids

The government issued advisory on rational use of cough syrups in paediatric population, following recent reports suggesting deaths among children in MP were linked to cough syrups. It warns against prescribing cough and cold medicines to children under 2, discourages its use below 5 and urges supervised dosing with minimal duration. Multiple drugs combinations should be avoided, it said.
