The Budget session of Parliament will consider a bill providing for the banning of all "private" cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin and ether in India and to create a framework for the creation of an official digital currency to be issued by the RBI. However, the bill "allows for certain exceptions to promote the underlying technology of cryptocurrency and its uses".
