The government is planning to curb overbilling by private hospitals by capping trade margins on medical devices, including consumables like syringes and gloves and high-value items such as pacemakers and heart valves. Some hospitals are charging ₹2 lakh for pacemakers worth ₹25,000, CNBC Awaaz reported. This comes as rising hospital costs inflate health insurance premiums and patients' expenses.
