Graphene sheets thought to be 2D structures show 3D properties
short by Dishant Sharma / on Friday, 4 October, 2019
Carbon allotrope graphene, which is a layer of carbon only one atom thick, is considered a prototypical 2D material, but a new study has shown that it exhibits mechanical properties consistent with 3D materials in high-pressure experiments. Researchers found that when introduced to high pressure the energy shift of graphene's vibrations is consistent with 3D materials rather than 2D structures.
