Gujarat forest department's 'Ridge-to-Valley' model is boosting water conservation, groundwater recharge and rural livelihoods. The initiative involves conserving rainwater through check dams, forest ponds and contour trenches. Around 170 check dams and 215 forest ponds have been constructed under the initiative over the last five years, helping recharge nearly 580 crore litres of groundwater.
