Israel said halting attacks from Hezbollah is now part of its war goal. Not formally declared as war, the exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah killed hundreds of mostly fighters in Lebanon, and dozens of civilians and soldiers in Israel. Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said "military action" was "only way left to ensure return of Israel's northern communities".
