Hand-made sail ship, inspired by Ajanta Caves paintings, inducted into Indian Navy

Indian Navy formally inducted an 'ancient stitched' sail ship into its fleet and named it INSV Kaundinya. The ship's design is based on a fifth century ship depicted in paintings of Ajanta Caves and was hand-made by artisans from Kerala, led by master shipwright Babu Sankaran. The ship's wooden planks were stitched using coir rope, coconut fibre and natural resin.
