Harmful cholesterol levels cut with one-time gene editing drug

A single gene alteration may help people reduce dangerously high cholesterol. In a Phase 1 trial of 15 participants, researchers used a one-time CRISPR, a gene-editing tool that makes cuts and changes to the body's genetic code. One infusion of the medicine manipulated a single gene in the liver, driving down low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides by about half.
